A Japanese Firm Interested in Cashew Investment for Export
AKP Phnom Penh, January 30, 2025 --
Nippon Koei Business Partners Co., Ltd. in interested in investing in cashew processing for export with a focus on processing cashew nuts and shells into vinegar and oil as well as animal feed.
The interest was revealed by Mr. Tsutomu Tamura, Deputy General Manager of Nippon Koei Business Partners Co., Ltd., in a meeting here on Jan. 30 with H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
H.E. Chea Vuthy informed his guest of the potential of Cambodian cashew sector, potential provinces for cashew growing, and how to maximise the benefits from cashews.
He laid stress on the Royal Government of Cambodia’s special attention to the cashew sector, particularly cashew processing.
This year, Cambodia exported more than 800,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, earning some US$1,150 million, up 31 percent from the previous year.
According to Mr. Uon Siloth, President of the Cambodian Cashew Association, Cambodia produced a total of about 850,000 tonnes of cashew nuts in 2024, up 26 percent from 2023. Currently, the Kingdom has 50 cashew nut processing enterprises, of which 6 are medium-sized factories.
The main markets for Cambodia’s cashew nuts are Vietnam, Japan and China.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ report shows that cashew plantations cover an area of about 580,117 hectares across Cambodia in 2024. Kampong Thom province has the largest cultivated area of around 147,700 hectares, followed by Kratie province with 102,500 hectares and Rattanakiri province with 97,200 hectares.
