Cambodia Welcomes Malaysian Officers to ASEAN Observer Team
AKP Phnom Penh, March 27, 2026 —
Cambodia has welcomed two Malaysian military officers to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in support of monitoring the implementation of ceasefire measures along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
According to a statement released this evening by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, the officers—Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Amin bin Baharom and Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Erry bin Dul TLDM—arrived at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport on Mar. 27.
They will serve as part of the AOT, currently led by the Philippines in its capacity as ASEAN rotating chair. The team’s mandate is to observe, verify, and report on the implementation of commitments outlined in the joint agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
The statement noted that Cambodia continues to provide full support to the ASEAN Observer Team, highlighting the importance of strengthening its role to ensure effective enforcement of the ceasefire and related measures.
By welcoming participation from ASEAN member states, Cambodia aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and mutual trust in the process.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm commitment to fully implementing the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025, as well as the Joint Declaration on Peace signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements.
These efforts are aimed at restoring normalcy and ensuring long-term peace and stability along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
