Cambodia Reaffirms Peaceful Approach During Diplomatic Visit to Border Areas
AKP Phnom Penh, March 28, 2026 --
Cambodia has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to resolving border issues with Thailand through peaceful means, as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. PRAK Sokhonn led a diplomatic visit to border areas in Pursat province.
The visit, held on Mar. 27 in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, brought together members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organisations accredited to Cambodia, aiming to provide a clear understanding of the situation on the ground.
During the visit, the delegation met with 76 displaced Cambodian families currently sheltering at Hun Sen Promaoy High School. The families have been unable to return to their homes since the December 2025 clashes in areas currently under illegal occupation by Thai forces.
The delegation also observed conditions at the Chey Chumneah border checkpoint in Thmar Da commune, where Thai military personnel have placed barbed wire and shipping containers, including three additional ones installed on Mar. 26, 2026, blocking National Road 55 and restricting access to the homes and lands of the displaced residents.
Despite these challenges, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn underscored that that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains firmly committed to resolving all border issues through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and relevant bilateral agreements.
He reaffirmed Cambodia’s principled stance that borderlines must not be altered by force and stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and good neighbourly relations.
