Cambodia Facilitates ASEAN Observer Mission, Reaffirms Commitment to Border Peace

Cambodia has continued to demonstrate its commitment to peace and transparency along the Cambodia-Thailand border by facilitating an observation mission by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in Banteay Meanchey province.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Saturday morning assisted the AOT in conducting on-site observation, verification, and reporting on the border situation in Prey Chan village following the implementation of the ceasefire.
The mission also marked an important transition in ASEAN leadership, with Malaysia handing over its role as the outgoing Chair to the Philippines. The Philippines will assume the rotating ASEAN Chairmanship and continue to lead the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia.
Cambodia reaffirmed its full support for the AOT’s role in ensuring the effective implementation of ceasefire measures, highlighting the importance of transparency, accountability, and mutual trust in maintaining stability along the border.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reiterated their firm and unwavering commitment to fully respect and implement all relevant agreements between Cambodia and Thailand, including the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee on Dec. 27, 2025, and the Joint Declaration on Peace dated Oct. 26, 2025.
These efforts are aimed at ensuring rapid recovery and restoring normalcy, and long-lasting peace and stability, underlined the spokeswoman.
