Sci-Cup Spotlights Cambodia’s Next Generation of STEM Talent at STI Day 2026
AKP Phnom Penh, March 28, 2026 --
The Sci-Cup Competition at the 4th National Day of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI Day) showcased Cambodia’s growing commitment to strengthening STEM education and nurturing future innovators.
H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, emphasised that Sci-Cup reflects Cambodia’s ambition to move beyond technology adoption. “We hope that Cambodian youth will not only use technology, but also become creators and developers of new technologies—strengthening Cambodia’s potential to be more robust, resilient, and competitive both regionally and globally,” he said.
Organised by the National Institute of Science, Technology & Innovation (NISTI), the competition brought together top-performing students from across the country. After two rigorous preliminary rounds, six finalists advanced to the national stage—two from Battambang province and four from Phnom Penh.
The three top finalists will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals during the 4th STI Day closing ceremony.
H.E. Dr. Keo Socheat, Director General of NISTI, said, “This final round not only demonstrates academic excellence, but also highlights innovation, self-confidence, and adaptability. These qualities will enable our youth to actively contribute to the development of Cambodia’s science and technology.”
The competition forms part of broader efforts to build a skilled STEM workforce and advance Cambodia’s transition toward a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.
