ASEAN Observer Team Monitors Situation at Boeung Trakuon Border Checkpoint
AKP Phnom Penh, March 28, 2026 --
The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) has conducted an on-site mission to observe, verify, and report on the situation at the Boeung Trakuon border checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, following the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated the mission on Saturday morning, ensuring the AOT’s access to assess conditions on the ground.
The mission also marked a transition in ASEAN leadership, with Malaysia handing over its role as Chair to the Philippines. The Philippines will continue leading the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia as part of its rotating chairmanship.
Cambodia reiterated its full support for the AOT’s role in promoting transparency and building mutual trust, which are essential for maintaining peace and stability along the border.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm and unwavering commitment to fully respect and implement all relevant agreements between Cambodia and Thailand, including the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec. 27, 2025 and the Joint Declaration on Peace on Oct. 26, 2025.
These efforts are aimed at ensuring a swift return to normalcy and securing long-term peace and stability along the shared border.
