Preah Vihear Governor Delivers Aid to Displaced Families for Khmer New Year
AKP Phnom Penh, April 15, 2026 —
Preah Vihear Provincial Governor H.E. Kim Rithy has distributed humanitarian assistance to displaced families in the province, with support from Vietnam’s Gia Lai provincial authorities, ahead of the Khmer New Year celebrations.
During a visit on April 13 afternoon, the governor met with displaced residents staying at temporary shelters at Wat Oddar kiri Tuol Andet and Wat Peung Angkam, where he handed over 1,500 aid packages provided by the People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
H.E. Kim Rithy expressed deep gratitude to the Gia Lai authorities for their continued solidarity and timely support, particularly during difficult times, noting that the assistance reflects strong humanitarian spirit and cross-border friendship.
He also encouraged displaced families to celebrate the Khmer New Year in a joyful and meaningful way, including organising traditional rituals to welcome the New Year Angel on April 14, despite their temporary living conditions.
To further uplift the festive spirit, the governor personally contributed funds to support the organisation of traditional music and entertainment activities at the shelters from April 14 to 16.
The governor concluded by extending New Year wishes to all displaced families, wishing them health, happiness, and well-being, while calling on donors and the public to continue supporting humanitarian efforts in the province.
