International Day of Yoga Celebrated in Siem Reap with Large Public Participation
AKP Phnom Penh, June 19, 2026 -- The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh, in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the Siem Reap Provincial Administration, organised a major yoga event in Siem Reap to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga.
Held at the Royal Residence Park on June 19, the event brought together more than 500 participants, including yoga practitioners, students, government officials, and members of the public.
The celebration was presided over by H.E. Hout Hak, Minister of Tourism, and Indian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung.
In his remarks, the Indian Ambassador highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasising yoga’s role in promoting healthy and active living.
The Ambassador noted that yoga, rooted in India’s ancient wisdom and now widely embraced around the world, has become a trusted practice supporting physical and mental well-being.
He further stated that hosting the celebration in Siem Reap — a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage — reflects and strengthens the longstanding cultural and civilisational ties between India and Cambodia.
The Ambassador also expressed sincere appreciation to Minister Hout Hak and representatives of ministries and government institutions for their continued support and active participation in promoting and celebrating the International Day of Yoga in Cambodia.
In addition to the main event in Siem Reap, more than 12 yoga-related activities were organised across Cambodia in the lead-up to the 12th International Day of Yoga.
These events, held from April to June 2026 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” were conducted in cooperation with various ministries, government agencies, universities, and yoga communities throughout the country.
