2026-2030 Tourism Plan Launched to Drive Tourism Growth in Preah Sihanouk Province
AKP Phnom Penh, September 15, 2026 -- Preah Sihanouk province has launched a five-year tourism development plan aimed at raising the quality and competitiveness of its tourism sector and strengthening its position as Cambodia’s second major urban centre.
Tourism Minister H.E. Huot Hak and Preah Sihanouk Governor H.E. Mang Sineth presided over the Sept. 14 ceremony to launch implementation of the Preah Sihanouk Tourism Development Plan 2026-2030, the fifth target province covered by the Ministry of Tourism’s development planning initiative.
The plan provides a joint roadmap for government institutions, local authorities, businesses and other stakeholders to develop tourism products and services and attract more national and international visitors.
The government’s vision is to transform Preah Sihanouk into a high-quality, internationally competitive destination for both business and leisure tourism, supporting economic growth, innovation and sustainable urban development.
H.E. Huot Hak highlighted the province’s rapid development and improvements to its infrastructure, urban areas, beaches and public spaces. Attractions include the “Preah Thong Toang Sbai Neang Neak”, “Khmer Can Do” and “Water-Spouting Dragon” statues.
The province also has significant natural tourism assets, including its coastline, islands, marine biodiversity and Ream National Park, providing opportunities for coastal, island, ecotourism and water-sports activities.
Its transport network, including the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, deep-sea port and international airport, further supports the development of an international marine tourism destination.
H.E. Huot Hak said the province must continue developing new tourism products, improving service quality, cleanliness, security and safety to respond to changing tourist behaviour and growing regional competition.
The Minister also stressed stronger cooperation across government, the private sector, development partners, media and content creators, describing tourism as an interconnected sector requiring collective action.
