Comprehensive Studies Conducted to Boost Cambodia's Cashew Industry
AKP Phnom Penh, June 02, 2026 --
The National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI) has completed a field study in Kampong Thom province aimed at improving cashew harvesting and processing through technological innovation, the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) said on June 2.
The three-day mission, conducted from May 27 to 29, involved consultations and in-depth interviews with relevant government departments, industry stakeholders, six model cashew farmers and several major cashew processing enterprises operating in the province.
According to NISTI, the information gathered during the study will contribute to the development and implementation of technologies designed to improve productivity, processing efficiency, quality standards and the overall competitiveness of Cambodia’s cashew industry.
As part of the mission, the research team consulted CAC, one of the key stakeholders in the sector.
The association also showcased its processing training facility and demonstration plant located at its headquarters in Kampong Thom province.
The facility serves as a practical training centre for aspiring cashew processors and currently hosts student interns from vocational training institutions, including the Polytechnic Institute of Kampong Thom.
It is intended to provide hands-on experience and technical skills to support the expansion of Cambodia’s processing industry.
Mr. Silot Uon, CAC’s President, highlighted the role of the facility in preparing workers for future opportunities in the sector.
“The facility serves as a focal point for skills development and practical training ahead of the launch of the Cashew Industrial Park,” he said.
Mr. Silot Uon added that Cambodia’s Skilled Development Fund had expressed interest in supporting the initiative and expanding training programmes for workers, technicians and mechanics specialising in cashew processing.
The effort aims to ensure a steady supply of skilled labour for processing facilities expected to operate within the upcoming Cashew Industrial Park, a flagship project designed to strengthen domestic value-added production and reduce Cambodia’s reliance on raw cashew exports.
