UNAIDS Congratulates Cambodia on Achieving Global 95-95-95 HIV Targets
AKP Phnom Penh, June 12, 2026 -- The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has congratulated Cambodia on its successful achievement of the global 95-95-95 HIV targets, recognising the country’s significant progress toward ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
The remarks were made during a courtesy call and working meeting between Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Mr. Eamonn Murphy, Director of UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Friday morning.
During the meeting, Mr. Murphy praised Cambodia’s broad socio-economic progress and highly commended the Royal Government’s strong leadership in nation-building, development, and strengthening the healthcare sector.
He also highlighted the government’s continued commitment to promoting public health, particularly through the development and implementation of Cambodia’s national social protection policy framework.
Mr. Murphy extended congratulations to Cambodia for reaching the global 95-95-95 HIV targets — meaning that 95 percent of people living with HIV know their HIV status, 95 percent of those diagnosed receive antiretroviral treatment, and 95 percent of those receiving treatment achieve viral suppression.
He noted that this achievement marks an important step toward ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
The Regional Director further underlined that Cambodia is one of only seven countries globally and the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to successfully attain these global targets. He encouraged Cambodia to share its successful experiences and best practices with other countries around the world.
Mr. Murphy also reaffirmed UNAIDS’ continued support and cooperation with Cambodia in the health sector, particularly in HIV prevention and response efforts.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed appreciation for the United Nations’ contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development, especially in the health sector and support for the country’s HIV response programmes.
The Prime Minister emphasised that successive Cambodian governments, including the current seventh-mandate Royal Government, have consistently prioritised a people-centred development approach through improving healthcare, education, and job creation as key foundations for national growth.
He also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare services and infrastructure at both national and local levels.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei stressed that despite Cambodia’s achievements in public health, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases continue to be considered major public health risks requiring sustained attention and action.
The Premier also encouraged UNAIDS to continue strengthening engagement and cooperation with Cambodia in advancing the health sector and reaffirmed the Royal Government’s readiness to work closely with the United Nations and development partners to achieve further progress.
