Burgas Airport welcomed its one-millionth passenger of 2026 on Wednesday, reaching the milestone one day earlier than in 2025, the airport said on Thursday. The passenger arrived on a Wizz Air flight from Katowice, which was greeted with a water salute, gifts and a commemorative cake.
Burgas Airport Director Vasil Atanasov said the earlier milestone reflects strong passenger traffic and raises hopes that the airport will match or even exceed its 2025 performance. He noted, however, that geopolitical tensions and high fuel prices continue to weigh on the aviation sector.
This summer, Burgas Airport serves more than 70 destinations, with new routes including Ryanair flights to Rome, Volotea services to Lille, and the restored Transavia France route between Burgas and Paris' Orly Airport. While the German market has declined due to fewer flights, Poland and the United Kingdom remain the airport's strongest source markets, Atanasov emphasized, adding that passenger numbers from Hungary and Ireland have also posted double-digit growth.
