AKP Phnom Penh, August 11, 2026 -- Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, in Vientiane on Tuesday.

The meeting took place as Samdech led a high-level Cambodian parliamentary delegation to attend the funeral of the late H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

During the meeting, President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his deep gratitude to the Cambodian delegation for attending the funeral and thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for personally calling him to convey condolences. He said the passing of H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone was a profound loss for the Lao Party, State, and people.

Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed appreciation to President Thongloun Sisoulith and the Lao leadership for their warm hospitality.

She conveyed her deepest condolences to the Lao Party, State, National Assembly, and people over the passing of the late National Assembly President.

Samdech conveyed the warm regards and condolences of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and the deepest condolences of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to the Lao leadership and people. She stressed that the passing of H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone was a profound loss for both Laos and Cambodia.

Samdech remembered H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone as a great leader and a symbol of the friendship and solidarity between Cambodia and Laos.

She stressed that the two countries are truly trusted friends whose deeply rooted relationship has remained resilient and continued to thrive despite changes in the international environment.

She noted that the traditional and special friendship, solidarity, and Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership between Cambodia and Laos continue to grow across generations.

Highlighting the importance of trilateral cooperation, Samdech recalled President Thongloun Sisoulith's view that Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam are like the three legs of a tripod, supporting one another. Without all three standing firmly together, the tripod cannot remain stable.

Samdech therefore stressed the importance of maintaining a strong trilateral partnership among Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam, built on mutual trust, support, and solidarity.

The Lao President respectfully conveyed his warmest regards to His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and extended his greetings and best wishes to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Samdech Chakrei Heng Samrin, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.

He similarly emphasised that the trilateral relationship should remain as strong as an iron-clad tripod standing on a solid foundation.

He highlighted cooperation among the parties, governments, and parliaments as key pillars in strengthening relations.

The Lao President thanked Cambodia for its friendship and solidarity and stressed the importance of carrying forward the wisdom and legacy of H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane.

He expressed confidence that inter-parliamentary cooperation would continue to grow and looked forward to even stronger cooperation between the two National Assemblies, inspired by the late leader's legacy.

Samdech Khuon Sudary congratulated President Thongloun Sisoulith on his election as General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao PDR.

She expressed confidence that, under his leadership, Laos would advance toward its vision of becoming a high-income country by 2055.

Samdech highlighted Laos' development direction under the guiding vision of strengthening Party leadership, building an independent and self-reliant economy, consolidating the people's democratic regime, and advancing toward socialism.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the longstanding bonds between Cambodia and Laos, carrying forward the legacy of H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, and further strengthening cooperation among their parties, governments, National Assemblies, and peoples for the mutual benefit of both nations.
