Cambodia, Germany Pledge to Boost Bilateral Investment
AKP Phnom Penh, June 03, 2026 --
H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), received here on June 3 a courtesy call and held a working discussion with a high-level delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany.
The delegation was led by Mr. Thomas Rachel, Member of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Bundestag, on the occasion of their official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from June 1 to 3.
The bilateral meeting was also attended by H.E. Stefan Messerer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
On the occasion, H.E. Sun Chanthol highly valued the traditional bonds of friendship and excellent cooperation existing between the two nations across governmental, parliamentary, and people-to-people frameworks.
He expressed his deep gratitude to the Government and the people of Germany for their instrumental role in supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development over the years.
The German parliamentary delegation thanked H.E. Deputy Prime Minister for providing them with deeper insights into Cambodia’s open-door investment policies, and commended Cambodia's rapid development across all sectors.
The German side also highly valued the candid and fraternal exchange of views on several strategic topics, including future directions for the upcoming communal and national elections; Cambodia's adaptability within the context of shifting global dynamics; the promotion of women’s roles in the public sector; and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strategic roadmap for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
In response to the queries on investment promotion strategies, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister briefed the delegation on Cambodia’s core competitive advantages. These include political stability, robust macroeconomic foundations, dedicated human resource development, and sharp institutional reforms aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business.
He emphasised the distinct benefits of the Law on Investment of the Kingdom of Cambodia, which is characterised by its openness, and highly attractive incentives.
Furthermore, he highlighted Cambodia's proactive mechanisms for protecting investments and resolving private sector challenges through direct, solution-oriented dialogues. These include, notably, the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF), the Public-Private Sector Dialogue (PPSD), and the Public-Private Sector Breakfast Briefing initiative, all of which are implemented in close collaboration with international chambers of commerce and relevant line ministries.
Additionally, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the substantial progress made in modernising Cambodia’s strategic infrastructure.
He underscored major master plans, specifically the expansion of the Sihanoukville Deep Sea Port and the Funan Techo Canal project.
These landmark development initiatives are destined to significantly reduce transport and logistics costs, thereby bolstering Cambodia’s logistical competitiveness within the region.
Both sides expressed a shared commitment to maintaining and further elevating these excellent relations. They pledged to coordinate and collaborate closely to catalyse a new wave of German investment into Cambodia in the near future, aiming to deliver reciprocal socio-economic benefits for the nations and peoples of both countries.
