Cambodia’s Women’s Para Throwball Team Advances to Final
AKP Phnom Penh, June 04, 2026 --
Cambodia’s women’s para throwball team has advanced to the final and will compete against host nation Malaysia for the gold medal this afternoon, aiming to defend its title at the 2nd Asian Para Throwball Championship 2026 in Malaysia.
Speaking to AKP from Malaysia on Thursday morning, H.E. Yi Vasana, Secretary-General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia and Chairman Committee of the World Para Throwball, said the competition schedule had undergone minor adjustments following Bhutan’s withdrawal from the tournament.
As a result, Cambodia’s women’s team advanced directly to the final and will face Malaysia at 2:00 p.m. Cambodia time on June 4 in a bid to retain the gold medal won at the inaugural championship hosted by Cambodia in March 2025.
H.E. Yi Vasana highlighted the strong technical capabilities of the Cambodian women’s team, noting that the athletes had demonstrated excellent preparation and performance during the preliminary round.
Cambodia secured two straight victories, defeating host Malaysia 3–0 before recording another 3–0 win over India, with similarly decisive scorelines.
For the men’s competition, Cambodia’s para throwball team, also the defending champion, opened its campaign with a convincing 3–0 victory over India, recording scores of 21–3, 21–2, and 21–2.
The men’s event initially featured eight participating countries, but Bhutan’s withdrawal reduced the field to seven teams while maintaining the two-group format.
H.E. Yi Vasana expressed confidence that Cambodia’s men’s team, which he described as possessing strong technical quality, would also have the potential to defend its gold medal successfully.
On behalf of the Cambodian Paralympic delegation, he reaffirmed the determination of the officials, coaches, and para-athletes to uphold national honour and pride on the international stage and strive to bring home gold medals for Cambodia.
The 2nd Asian Para Throwball Championship 2026 is being held in Malaysia with participation from seven countries. Cambodia sent a delegation of 32 members, including officials, coaches, and athletes, led by H.E. Yi Vasana.
